Hurom Slow Juicer Review

The Hurom Slow Juicer has taken the principle of the popular horizontal auger masticating juicers and turned it around so that the auger is positioned vertically instead of horizontally.
By doing so the Hurom slow juicer is able to take up less space on your worktop but still produce the quality juice that you expect from a masticating juicer.
Unlike a centrifugal juicer the slow moving auger on the Hurom slow juicer gentle rotates squeezing and pulping the fruit and vegetables until all the juice is extracted. The pulp is ejected into one container and the juice into another.
Compared to a centrifugal juicer you can see immediately the difference in the quality of the juice it produces. It is more rich and full and doesn’t seperate out into different components.
Whilst it won’t win any competitions for speed when compared to a model such as the Breville 800jexl it does produce a better drink and is ideally suited to leafy greens and wheatgrass which most centrifugal juicers cannot handle.
Extracting juice slowly in this manner also makes the juice more nutritious. The juice is less oxidized and therefore fresher and tastier whilst retaining the essential nutrients and vitamins that you were after in the first place. Although slow juice will keep longer it is recommended that you drink it soon after making so that you reap the most health benefits.

Hurom Slow Juicer 3rd Generation
At the time of writing the Hurom Slow Juicer is now in its 3rd generation model. The main difference between the 3rd generation model and previous designs is that the filter screen has been upgraded to a stronger material. The plastic screen on previous models was prone to cracking.
The new enhanced screen is now 8x stronger due to using GE Ultem material
Pros
- Excellent all round masticating juicer
- Quiet, quick and easy to clean
- Two stage juicing to remove as much juice as possible
- Small footprint compared to horizontal masticating juicers
Cons
- Only 1 year warranty on parts (except motor which is 10 years)
- Vertical auger is prone to squeaking and clogging when juicing wheatgrass
- White plastic casing can stain easily with dark juices
Hurom Slow Juicer vs Omega 8006
Feed chute is a little smaller on the Omega 8006 compared to the Hurom slow juicer so it takes a little longer to process a lot of produce. You will find that you also need to push the vegetables into the chute on the Omega 8006, something that also wasn’t necessary with the Hurom.
The Hurom juicer is about $50 more expensive than the Omega 8006 and is does take longer to clean. If you are quick at cleaning then you should be able to clean the Omega 806 in about two minutes. The Hurom slow juicer will take about twice that time to clean. This is mainly due to the extra time it takes to lean the screen and remove excess produce from the chute.
When it comes to juicing wheatgrass both machines perform well but the Hurom slow juicer tends to emit a squeaking noise due to having a vertical auger.
Overall the Hurom Slow Juicer is faster and more expensive than the Omega 8006 and is suited to someone that juices a lot of fruit and vegetables. If you juice a lot of wheatgrass then a juicer with a horizontal auger is probably more suited to the job.
Hurom Slow Juicer vs Omega VRT330
Are you confused as to whether you should buy a Hurom slow juicer or an Omega VRT330 and why do they look so similar? The short answer is that they are basically the same juicer but under a different brand name. Both are made in the same factory in Korea and have many parts in common.
Differences are minimal but there are several versions of the Omega VRT330 so you should look closely at the model numbers. The Omega VRT330 is the same as the 2nd generation of the Hurom juicer so basically it is missing the new high strength screen. The Omega VRT330HD or heavy duty is comparable to the 3rd generation Hurom HU-100. The Hurom is slight cheaper and comes with a white and lime green casing whereas the Omega VRT330HD is white and silver.
One big difference between the Omega and Hurom is the warranty period. Both juicers have the same ten (10) year warranty on the motor but the Hurom only has a one year warranty for the other parts whereas the Omega caries a full 10 year warranty on all parts. Based on the warranty period you would be better off with an Omega VRT350HD for the same price.
Hurom Slow Juicer Reviews from Customers
What are other users of the Hurom HU-100 slow juicer saying? Overall customer reviews are very positive with the majority of people rating it 5 out of 5 quoting the ease of use, quickness of juicing and durability of the machine are strong points. Most of the negative comments concern its ability to juice fibrous vegetables due to issues with them becoming clogged around the auger unless they are cut into small pieces before inserting. As a wheatgrass juicer it works but does not perform particularly well.
One user commented on the lack of spare parts available in the USA.
Overall Impression of the Hurom Slow Juicer
The Hurom HU-100 slow juicer is a good all round single auger masticating juicer that is quiet and quick at juicing. It performs best on regular fruits and vegetables and although it can juice leafy greens including wheatgrass this is not it’s strong point. The vertical alignment of the auger means that these types of fibrous vegetables tend to wind around the auger clogging it and eventually becoming stuck.
It is in direct competition from the Omega VRT330HD and the improved VRT350HD for the same price. Both of the Omega models come with a full 10 year warranty on both the motor and parts which is a great improvement on the miserly 1 year warranty for the Hurom parts.
If you plan on mainly juicing wheatgrass or leafy greens then you are better off purchasing a juicer with a horizontal auger of the single or preferably double auger variety.
